2014년 9월 인천글로벌캠퍼스에 개교한 벨기에의 겐트대학교 (Ghent University)가 2015학년 9월 신입생을 모집하기 위하여 2014년 11월22일 서울 삼성동 COEX에서 입학 및 장학금 설명회를 다음과 같이 개최하오니, 겐트대학교에 관심을 가진 학생들과 학부모들의 적극적인 참여 부탁 드립니다.
유럽 생명 과학의 발상지인 겐트대학교 (Ghent University) 는 1817년에 설립된 벨기에 최고의 명문 대학입니다. 미국에만 편향되지 않고, 전세계 대학교들을 아우르면서 철저한 검정으로 신뢰받는 영국의 The Times, 상하이교통대학교 (Shanghai Ji Tong University), QS등 전세계 대학교 순위 평가에서 Ghent Universi는 2013년과 2014년 각각 전 세계 대학 랭킹에서85위를 차지 했습니다. 또한 올해 9월 인천 글로벌 대학교에 개교한 겐트대학교는 생명과학 분야에서는 위에 언급한 평가 기관의 순위 매김에서 각각 40위, 51위, 31위를 차지하였습니다. 겐트대학교에는 자크로게 전 올림픽 위원회장을 비롯하여 다수의 노벨상 수상자와 식품, 환경 공학의 최고 분야에서 수상한 교수진과 동문들이 전 세계에서 눈 부신 활약을 펼치고 있습니다.

분자생명공학과, 환경공학과, 식품공학과는 유럽뿐 아니라 전 세계적으로 겐트대학교의 명성이 자자하며, 미래의 유망 산업으로 많은 나라에서 공을 들여 키우고 있는 분야입니다. 미국의 국가정보위원회가 조사해 발표한2025년 전 세계 산업 분야 트렌드 전망에 따르면, 미국의 국력 약화가 우려되는 가운데, 러시아와 인도의 성장 같은 국제 정치 변화 이외에 세계 기후 변화, 생명 과학 기술의 변화와 발전, 식품 수요 증가 등 많은 부분에서 언급한 세 학과와 관련된 분야의 성장 가능성을 언급하여 이들 전공의 미래 성장 비전에 큰 기대를 걸고 있습니다.

삼성전자는 반도체와 휴대폰의 다음 성장 동력으로 헬스, 바이오 분야를 육성하고 있으며, 겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스 바로 옆에 위치한 송도 바이오 클로스터 단지에 자리한 바이오 항체 의약품을 다루는 삼성바이오로직스와 바이오에피스에 많은 투자를 하고 있습니다. 삼성바이오로직스는 2조1천억을 투자하고 있는데, 이곳 직원들 또한 현재 송도 캠퍼스 내 기숙사에 기거하고 있습니다. 송도바이오클로스터 단지에는 삼성 이외에 코스닥 시가총액 1위인 셀트리온 등 많은 국내외 유명 바이오 회사들이 들어와 있으며 겐트대학교는 지난 2014년 1월22일 삼성바이오로직스, 삼성바이오에피스, 셀트리온, 바이넥스 외 다른 국내외 유명 바이오 회사들과, 바이오 분야 활성화를 위한 연구 협력 및 인턴십 제공 등의 인재 양성을 위한 양해각서에 사인했습니다. 또한2012년부터 2020년까지 매년 천 억 달러, 총 800조원 이상의 재원을 조성하는 UN 산하 기관인 Green Climate Fund 본부가 송도에 유치되어 환경공학과 학생들의 대기업 취업 및 학문적 탐구 이외에 국제 기구 진출에 대한 전망도 밝게 했습니다. 한편 우리나라 주도 하에 출범한 최고의 국제기구인 글로벌녹색성장기구 (GGGI)도 송도에 사무실이 위치하고 있어서, 겐트대학교 졸업생의 GGGI진출에 진출 가능성을 향상시켜 주고 있습니다. 또한 세계 최고의 식품 시장이 될 13억 중국 시장과 지리적으로 가깝고, 식량, 식품에 대한 수요 증가로 식품의 생산, 유통, 보관과 관련된 프로세스 및 전문가에 대한 수요 증가로 경제 경영학적 관점이 공학기술과 결합된 융합교육을 목표로 하는 식품공학과의 전망도 아주 밝은 편입니다.


겐트송도캠퍼스는 분교가 아닌 확장형 캠퍼스

겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스는 분교가 아닌 확장형 캠퍼스 (Extended Campus)의 개념으로 본교의 교수진이 들어와 100% 영어로 수업이 진행되며, 본교와 동일한 학위가 수여됩니다. 교수 1인당 2명 이상의 박사와 박사과정의 연구진이 들어와 학생들의 실험, 실습을 도울 예정이며 본교와 동일한 커리큘럼과 실험, 실습 장비 및 시설이 제공되며, 벨기에에서 3학년 1학기를 수학한 후 유럽 회사에서의 인턴십을 수행할 수 있는 기회도 제공됩니다.
